Acupuncture
The ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture is becoming
an integral part of veterinary medicine. It is most commonly used for pain management and musculoskeletal trauma, but it can be used as a complementary therapy for the following:
- Muscle and tendon injury
- Osteoarthritis pain
- Sacroiliac pain
- Laminitis
- Gastric ulcers
- Anhidrosis
- Allergies
- Respiratory problems
- Reproductive problems
- Preventative medicine and immune health
The placement of the acupuncture needles into specific points stimulates nerve endings and lymphatics to trigger responses from the brain. Each treatment usually takes approximately one hour and may involve electrostimulation (E-Stim) as well. This can be done at our facility or in the field. It is important that the horse be in a quiet relaxed environment after the needles are placed. The number and frequency of the treatments will vary depending on the specific issue being treated.
